The South African National Civic Organization in the Waterberg Region has welcomed the announcement by Limpopo Treasury MEC Kgabo Mahoai, on the withdrawal of R500 million from the Provincial Revenue Fund to address the devastation brought by floods across the province.

Tabling the Amended Budget Adjustments for the current financial year on Thursday, Mohoai indicated that the R500 million, raised by all provincial departments, will go towards providing relief to affected communities.

These include those in the Waterberg and Vhembe Districts, which were the most affected by the floods, wherein many people were displaced, roads severely damaged and about 5 people died.

Sanco regional secretary Andrew Mafemo says more than 15 houses in Thabazimbi, most of them being of child-headed families were destroyed, including those in Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality, while 3 people died in the Mogalakwena Local Municipality.

Mafemo says they will closely monitor the disbursement of the R500 million, which should prioritise fixing damaged roads,particularly in Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality and rebuilding the homes of those displaced.
